Nashville TN By Neighborhood- A Visitors Guide To 12 South

If you’re looking to explore one of Nashville’s hippest neighborhoods, you’re not going to want to miss 12 South. The busy stretch of 12 Ave S is bustling with runners, moms pushing strollers, couples walking dogs, and cyclists alike. One thing is for sure: it’s a prime destination for dining as well as shopping. You can easily live, work, and play in the 12 South neighborhood.

Breakfast / Brunch

BOX: Bongo + Bakery serves Bongo Java Coffee and features an on-site bakery. There’s also a 12 South location of Frothy Monkey, a popular coffee and breakfast destination. Head to Portland Brew Coffee for a taste of the Northwest right here in Nashville.

Burger Up is a gourmet burger concept with locally sourced beef, founded in 2010 with “thoughtful consuming” in mind. Are you a chicken fanatic? Look no further than The Flipside, a concept with over 20 different pan-sauteed chicken creations.
Choose Edley’s Barbecue if you’re seeking a primo destination for all things meat. Enjoy your protein of choice as a taco, sandwich, or platter.
Hit up the counter Sloco for a solid lunch sandwich, quick! If you have time to sit for a minute, grab a side of the mac and cheese and thank me later.

Still hungry? Any time of day is a good time to grab a pop from popsicle shop Las Paletas, owned by sisters Irma and Norma Paz, who grew up eating the fresh fruit ice pops in Mexico, and desired to share the authentic flavors with Music City. You can also get your Jeni’s Ice Cream or Sprinkles Cupcakes fix on in 12 South. Sweet tooth heaven, right?

Happy Hour Picks

For a drink or two after work, Embers Ski Lodge is a great rustic setting, featuring happy hour specials every day of the week. Bartaco is a favorite among locals for margaritas and tacos.

Epice is one of few places in Nashville to experience Lebanese fare. At Josephine you’ll find a contemporary restaurant serving fresh American farmhouse cuisine in a trendy setting. Unexpectedly, I found a go-to spot for pizzas and pastas alike at 12 South Taproom. Beyond the taproom aspect, the food is well worth a visit. Head to Urban Grub for an upscale dining experienced housed in a renovated car wash. They make their own pastas in-house, plus lots of oysters. Don’t miss it.

Retail hot spots in 12 South include Draper James, White’s Mercantile, and Judith Bright, among many others.

Other Notable Stops

To experience one of Nashville’s most beautiful parks, check out neighboring Sevier Park. Before you head home, be sure and stop and smile for a prime photo op at the I Believe In Nashville mural.
